ALEX KATZ

January 18 – February 26, 2005
USF Contemporary Art Museum

Alex Katz, Ada and Alex, 1980. Cartoon (mounted).
Courtesy of Peter Blum Gallery, New York.

Internationally renowned artist Alex Katz is one of the most important American artists to have emerged since 1950. This exhibition features a selection of his large-scale “cartoons”. They are in fact one-to-one fabrications of his visual ideas which he then uses to compose a painting. Katz began making these cartoons in the early 70s when he first launched into a new scale for his canvases. The exhibition in the East Gallery is composed of cartoons and drawings, guest curated by Michael Klein. The West Gallery features a selection of related prints and paintings.

USFCAM will publish a catalog in conjuction with this exhibition.
