Arakawa
Artist Arakawa, in collaboration with his wife Madeline Gins, the writer / philosopher, has contributed significantly to the PostModernist project in art. They have melded physics, metaphysics, phenomenology, semiotics, philosophy and other disciplines to create a visual art form that examines human thought, language and perception, through projects such as The Mechanism of Meaning (first shown at the 1970 Venice Biennale), the Ubiquitous Site, Nagi's Ryoanji, Architectural Body at the Nagi Museum of Contemporary Art, Japan, and a new park in Tokyo entitled The Theme Park of the Soul. They work in many printmaking media as well as in filmmaking, video, sculpture, painting and architecture.
In the two Graphicstudio prints The Sharing of Nameless, an etching with embossing and a lithograph/screenprint with embossing, Arakawa created works of aesthetic richness and penetrating analysis. Color, texture, text and graphics interact to create works of art that are both artistic and intellectual in their exploration of human awareness.
