Michael Glier
Michael Glier's intaglio print Men at Home: Grooming displays Glier's drawing style, lively, energetic and somewhat calligraphic in its treatment of details. The print is one of a series of five the artist made at Graphicstudio, that present men in domestic settings rather than in their usual public worlds.
Glier used the "direct gravure" technique for the print, which allowed the artist to fully exercise his freedom of line in intaglio. Glier drew on transparent mylar, and his drawing was transferred to a copper plate via traditional photogravure technology. He then added drypoint and aquatint to the plate, to deepen and enrich lines and tones.
Much of Glier's work addresses social and political issues, through artist books, drawings, wall drawings, paintings and installations. He has had exhibitions at Williams College Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Addision Gallery, Phillips Academy.
